AWAKENING IN TAOS: Producer Mark Gordon is making a film on Mabel Dodge Luhan and her life and work centered in Taos, New Mexico. It includes her marriage to Tony Lujan of Taos Pueblo who was Standing Deer's great grandfather by adoption. Standing Deer spent much time in their home and among their guests until Mabel's passing. Gordon has this to say about her:Luhan began life in the Victorian age, and then grew to embody the paradigm of a progressive New Woman in the Modern Era.
Mabel functioned as a living muse, inspiring countless authors, poets, artists, photographers, and activists for social change. She was a tireless champion for modern artists, social and labor movements, a spokesperson for the emancipation of women, and an evangelist for the preservation of the Native Americans’ way of life.
